WGA & SAG-AFTRA STRIKES 2023

Last year, I conducted an investigation on the impacts of the 2023 strikes on individuals in different parts of the entertainment industry. During this time, I interviewed members of WGA, IATSE, and SAG-AFTRA to gain insight into how they were managing their time while away from set.
"I was talking to my partner about the strike and he was like Sasha you got into Hollywood to try to make things better and to make things better for the kinds of people who were not apart of this guild back in 07 and 08. And he was like I think that by being apart of the strike this might be the biggest thing you ever do to make Hollywood a better place. Thats been really wild to think about. I always thought it was going to be writing itself that helped changed things. But it might be this labor action. I think it’s pretty cool to have been apart of it.”
“The positive side of the strikes are being home and having all that time to give to my family and to my friends and to see people I don’t usually get to see."
“Seeing the effect and the power that a union when it’s mobilized to its full strength can do.. the unions are the only way we’re not in servitude in this society.”
"I took the time to reset to kind of change my business. To go back to the drawing board and be like ok what can I do what can I work on. So I started back in voice lessons and I started writing, I started taking writing classes… worked on changing my look as I’m maturing, shot new headshots.”
